Uhuru Flea Market ( Why You Need to Go)

The Uhuru Flea Market is held at Clark park 43rd @ Baltimore/Chester in Southwest Philadelphia (SEPT. 18 and OCT. 16) and at 3rd and Poplar this past August 7th. Vendors can apply and reserve a space for as little as $25 for a 6 X 6 space and $45 for a 14 X 14 space. I can say from experience that the 6 X 6 space is worth it. I went my first time and sold baby cloths and some of the items I crocheted. I met a lot of cool and interesting people who encouraged me to keep coming.

The Solidarity team that organizes this does a wondeful job at it. The spots are marked of and someone is there in the morning to help you find your spot. As a shopper my experience has been wonderful. You get your average pushy selllers trying to force a sell on you, but you can also find some very inexpensive antiques, funirture, cloths, jewelry, etc. There are many hand made stands who charge an arm and leg for their products, but if you’re the artsy type who enjoys the fruits of others creativity than I suggest you check it out. Sometimes there is a live band and there is always food vendors, my favorite being the fruist squeezed juice and smoothie guy. If you’re in Philadelphia or are looking for something to do go to the Uhuru Flea market even if it’s just to look. The 34, 13, and 11 trolley will take you right by the park. It’s just a token away.

This can't be right... isn't life about living to reach something?

Life is made of choices, a series of yellow brick roads and forks in the road. We all make bad choice, but when if ever are the choices we make worth it? The fact is that no matter what you do there is somebody somewhere who thinks the choices you made were wrong, therefore if we are basing our lives on public opinion than we are always wrong and in the same light right. So why not just be uniquely you. Do what you want with out the constraints of society holding you back. If life is worth all the wrong turns why not live it?
